Soda Tax

Studies show that sugary drinks like cokes and sweet tea has been linked to obesity and diabetes.  Thus, it is necessary for the government to impose a Sugar Tax to discourage excess consumption, and hopefully lower the obesity levels and new diabetes cases.

President Barack Obama suggested a sugar tax on sodas to help pay for the health care bill and to prevent diabetes and the state of New York is also taking the soda tax into consideration.  Health officials, backed this proposal, stating that diabetes is a fast growing illness that leads to many other types of illnesses such as kidney failure, heart attacks, and nerve damage.  According to CNN, "the number of Americans with diabetes will nearly double in the next 25 years, and the costs of treating them will triple."  Taxing sugary drinks will decrease the amount of money that Americans must pay for the Health Care Reform Bill.  The tax is also beneficial in the long-run because new cures tend to increase the cost of medical care.  If the government start taxing sugar now, there will be less chance that medical bills will sky rocket.

The government must initiate action to prevent diabetes from spreading and help those who are already suffering from diabetes.  Most Americans drink too many bottles of coke daily.  Taxing sugary drinks can lessen the intake of coke while raising the money needed for medical care.

Pornography is Adultery-Rebut

http://i-am-in-rhet.blogspot.com/2010/02/pornography-is-not-adultery.html

It is true, that adultery is defined as "voluntary intercourse between a married man and someone other than his spouse," however, adultery is not always defined in this way.  Technology and the media is the most fastest growing industry, thus it is difficult to maintain the boundary between right and wrong.  Because pornography is not was it use to be in the 19th century, it is in fact becoming a danger to society.  Advancements in technology allows porn to be more realistic and less of a "fantasy."  It is not just black and white pictures anymore and it is easier to find, so it is not just a mere imagination.  The boundary between right and wrong or immoral and moral has been blurred and there is little regulation to keep up with advanced marketing.
Marriage used to be viewed as sacred, but in the current society it is so easy to break the bond between a man and a woman. What is marriage for if you can look at another woman lustfully?  The Bible says lust is a sin.
"Thinking about a person in a sexual manner is not adulterous, acting on it by doing such things as getting a lap dance or something in a closer relationship is."  This is partly true but not entirely correct.  Just because a person will never see the girl in person doesn't mean the act is" insignificant," as Carlo likes to phrase it.  Looking at porn is an act that is almost like a drug.  Even though there is no physical relationship between the two people there is an emotional relationship.  Relationships are first enhanced through emotions and marriage is an act caused by emotions.  This is polygamous in nature.  Thus the act is breaking traditional marriage vows especially the last line before a man commits to his wife, which is " forsaking all others, be faithful only to [him/her] so long as you both shall live."  A man is not "forsaking all others" if he is dishonoring his wife by looking at another female's naked body when he is eternally wedded with the one he loves.

Pornography is Adultery

The Pornographic industry is a growing industry due to technological advances and increased popularity since the 1900s. Pornography should be seen as a potential danger, not only is pornography a bad habit and inappropriate especially if it is leaked into children's eyes, but it is also morally wrong. Pornography is known to cause divorces among many married couples and has been debated whether it is a sin. The fact is that a husband’s lust for another female, even if the two will never meet, is still an act of unfaithfulness towards his wife.
Marriage is a sacred commitment of unity and loyalty. A man who lays his eyes on Porno Magazines is breaking the commitment he has made with his wife. Adultery does not only mean having a separate relationship with another man or woman, but it is also the act of looking at a person other than your spouse with lust. Thus, it is an act of disloyalty.
If pornography is not wrong, then most pornography-related divorce cases would not involve hidden naked graphics against the spouse’s wishes.  It is not just a harmless habit, considering that the model in the magazines is selling her body to consumers for cash. A man who endorses such actions causes negligence towards his wife. This destroys the sanctity of marriage. Pornography is like a harmful drug that can easily destroy the meaning of marriage and the trust that two people have for one another.

Pope's Emphasis in "An Essay on Criticism"

The Pope's poem, "An Essay on Criticism," describes the characteristics needed in writing and he argues the importance of these qualities that constitutes an eloquent piece of writing then reveals the components that weakens a work of writing.
For example, in the beginning of Part III Pope warns his reader of being persistent with an idea and explains that one flaw in a person’s argument will cause the whole argument to be meaningless. Pope develops his argument that entails his concepts using clarity and wit.
Pope writes in Part III, to understand the knowledge at opposing sides to effectively understand the whole argument likewise Pope performs this concept in his writing by informing the reader on not only makes up an well-developed essay but also acknowledge the steps amateur writers take that leads to bad writing.
Pope’s use of diction relates good and bad writing to light and dark, in order to, illustrate the steps taken when approaching an essay and articulates the qualities that are used to achieve a fluent argument in a poetic manner.
